COUPLES

In couples therapy, we utilize a variety of techniques depending on how you are uniquely struggling. We consider the strengths of each person and the relationship as we explore communication, differences in family history, and the wounds that have been created in the relationship. We do this in an effort to create a closer connection, heal wounds and communicate effectively in the context of personality style.

Common topics that emerge in couples therapy include:

affair recovery        conflict                 blended families        abuse

   communication      pornography      sexual challenges

MARRIAGE PREPARATION

Many couples work so hard to make sure every detail of the big day is just right.  Planning for your life together and investing in your marriage is just as important as planning the wedding day. Our therapists usually encourage couples to take the PREPARE/ENRICH premarital and marital assessment to target specific areas of growth as well as affirm the areas that they are thriving in. Being emotionally prepared for marriage is as important as the physical preparation for the big day. Common topics that are discussed in our premarital counseling include, finances, the family of origin patterns, expectations about sex, roles, effective communication, communication patterns, conflict resolution styles, and assessment for unique challenges. Marriage preparation can prevent surprises and problems before they begin. Research indicates that preventative therapy is more effective than reparative therapy.

FAMILY THERAPY

Our therapists are trained in systemic therapy which means that they are trained to observe and spot styles of communicating and interacting that often result in the family feeling disconnected and wounded. Many families get stuck in dysfunctional ways of interacting and need help getting "unstuck" in the safety of our office.  By trying a variety of techniques, our therapists help families understand each other's burdens and help facilitate greater connection. When one person in the family struggles, everyone in the family is impacted, and when the family struggles, every member of the family is impacted personally. Families often find themselves stuck in patterns that become very frustrating and difficult to change on their own. Whether your family is struggling with major life changes such as separation, divorce, blending families, conflict, or other struggles, we would love to come alongside you and your family to help your family become a safe place of healing, restoration, and discovery for each member.

MATURE FAMILY MEMBERS

Caring for the family as members age can be a challenge for adult children as well as their parents.  Often aging parents struggle to release control and trust their children as well as accept the new limitations that age brings to the body.  Helping families bridge the gap of caring for parents in the best manner possible as well as manage communication and honor their parent's desires with emerging limitations creates challenges with so many ideas and voices.  We can help balance these desires and help families communicate with each other in ineffective ways to create a balanced approach.
